Joseph: From Slave to Deputy Pharaoh

Week 3 Overview

  • Theme: God’s Providential Sovereignty: The chapter illustrates how God uses even the most difficult and seemingly evil human actions (like Joseph being sold into slavery) to bring about a greater good and the salvation of many lives.
  • The Upper Story (God's Perspective): God is in control, weaving together seemingly chaotic, tragic events (Joseph sold into slavery, imprisoned) to fulfill His divine plan of salvation for his people. The Lower Story (Our Perspective): Life is experienced through personal struggles, pain, jealousy, and betrayal (Joseph's brothers), which often feel unfair in the moment.
  • Bible Narrative: It covers the narrative of Joseph's life as recorded in Genesis, specifically focusing on his betrayal by his brothers, his time in Egypt as a slave and prisoner, and his eventual elevation to prime minister (deputy Pharaoh)
