Week 5 Overview
- Theme Focus: God setting apart a holy nation, the giving of the Law, the incident of the golden calf, and the establishment of the Tabernacle.
- Scripture Focus: Exodus Chapters 19 - 20, 24-25, and 32-34 and 40
- Key Concept: The Upper Story (God's View): God is sovereignly directing history, providing the Ten Commandments (new commands) to define his people, and creating a new covenant to establish a relationship with them. The Lower Story (Human View): This involves the daily struggles of the Israelites in the desert, including complaining, disobedience, and the difficulty of leaving slavery for a new life. It highlights human limitation and the need for guidance.
- Bible Narrative:The chapter demonstrates how God weaves the chaotic "Lower Story" of human experience into his overarching "Upper Story" of redemption and covenant.
